the pink tie

For one reason or another, I've been wearing suits to work a bit more in the past couple of weeks. This is probably a good thing all told. I spend enough money buying the damn things, that I should get a reasonable amount of enjoyment out of them if I can. But an odd thing has been happenning.

I have a couple of pink ties.

So I've been wearing them with various different suits and shirts. Almost uniformly, guys mention it. It's never a good thing when men commen about a tie. It means that you're being mocked. Almost uniformly, women have commented on the ties too. All the comments have been flattering.

Now it's clear that I'm doing the right thing by wearing a pink tie (none of the ties are solid pink, they're all patterned), I don't try to impress men with the way that I dress, I'm trying to impress women.

But the question is, why the difference in opinion. Do women see the tie and think that I must be confident to wear it, or do they immediately find it non-threatening and respond well? Why don't guys like it? Do they wish that they could pull it off or do they think that it's just ridiculous?

As curious as I am, why women like it doesn't really matter as long as they do. And whether men like it or not really doesn't matter either. Just a reality.
