Tech toys and other fun

So I got around to getting a cool little Internet tablet last week. It's a small handheld device that grabs wi-fi signals, has a touch screen interface and plays music and video.

The coolest thing is that instead of getting the Nokia tablet I was originally thinking of I got the 16GB ipod touch. Its probably sent as much time acting as a mail reader and movie player as it has as a music player. I'm genuinely impressed by it. If only it had Bluetooth and could interact with my phone. I had figured that with this and a small phone I'd be happy and wouldn't need an iPhone. I was wrong. I'm annoyed when I don't have wifi access now so an EDGE connection would be great to have as a fall back.

Then again, by the time the iPhone is available in Canada, it'll hopefully have support for that nifty HSDPA network that Roger's is flogging here. And hopefully it'll have a real GPS to work in conjunction with the cell tower and wi-fi network triangulation that they have now. Having said that, seeing the iPod Touch get your location within a block based on wi-fi alone is pretty cool.

As for photos, there are two quick things. Some people in the office asked me to do some quick portraiture today. They learned two very important things. First, take lots of photos and then pick the best on a computer screen, don't worry about what the camera shows. Second, when taking a photo of someone, don't hesitate to stand on a chair so that you're looking down towards them. It really helps avoid the double-chin look.

The second thing is that people should check out my slowly growing flickr set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dilipandrade

Blogger now supports the Devanagri script। They advertise it as Hindi, but I'm sure it will work just as well for the Marathi writers out there...

Now for the fun test... मेरा नाम दिलीप है.

Ok... it passes the test. I think that the tags accidentally got transliterated. I'll deal with that later. (dealt with I hope)

assorted weblinks...

The first one, that I should have put up in the getting out there posting, is the URL to my new bio on the Perley-Robertson HIll & McDougall Website. I have to admit that the photo isn't half bad.

The other thing of note is that the first candidate for the Liberal nomination in Ottawa Centre to get a nomination website up is Scott Bradley. If I notice that other people have websites go up, I'll post them too. But for now, Scott is the first out of the gate. Nice site too.

It's like anti-matter meeting matter....

See the clever title? Just the opposite of the one below. Why? Because last time it was Colbert on O'Reilly. This time, it's O'Reilly on Colbert.

This one is courtesy of YouTube. If it gets taken away, let me know and I'll try to find it again. Then again, if it gets taken away, why don't you look for it yourself and then email me to let me know. I'm lazy that way.

It's like matter meeting anti-matter....

Stephen Colbert was on Bill O'Reilly's No Spin Zone. As if to highlight the fact that he just doesn't get it, Bill has a panel on afterwards to analyze why Colbert is popular. For those of you who missed it, here it is again, in all of it's glory courtesy of google (ok, now it's courtesy of YouTube since Google seems to be sending everything to YouTube).

When I find Bill's appearance on Colbert's show, I'll post it too...
