Tech toys and other fun
So I got around to getting a cool little Internet tablet last week. It's a small handheld device that grabs wi-fi signals, has a touch screen interface and plays music and video.
The coolest thing is that instead of getting the Nokia tablet I was originally thinking of I got the 16GB ipod touch. Its probably sent as much time acting as a mail reader and movie player as it has as a music player. I'm genuinely impressed by it. If only it had Bluetooth and could interact with my phone. I had figured that with this and a small phone I'd be happy and wouldn't need an iPhone. I was wrong. I'm annoyed when I don't have wifi access now so an EDGE connection would be great to have as a fall back.
Then again, by the time the iPhone is available in Canada, it'll hopefully have support for that nifty HSDPA network that Roger's is flogging here. And hopefully it'll have a real GPS to work in conjunction with the cell tower and wi-fi network triangulation that they have now. Having said that, seeing the iPod Touch get your location within a block based on wi-fi alone is pretty cool.
As for photos, there are two quick things. Some people in the office asked me to do some quick portraiture today. They learned two very important things. First, take lots of photos and then pick the best on a computer screen, don't worry about what the camera shows. Second, when taking a photo of someone, don't hesitate to stand on a chair so that you're looking down towards them. It really helps avoid the double-chin look.
The second thing is that people should check out my slowly growing flickr set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dilipandrade
